We had a 1989 class c tioga arrow RV back in late 1990s. Recently we purchased another class c motorhome and after reading this book I realized that I did not poperly operate some of the systems and was not as careful about the weight of the RV fully loaded as I should have been. This is a GREAT book filled with basics and wisdom that I am putting to good use. The book speaks to RVs of all types. I was interested in the compare and contrast information between different types of RVs: campers, trailers, class A, B, C motorhomes, etc...Highly recommended
Too many "beginner" RV books spent too much time discussing what RV to buy and how to buy it, and not enough time on all the little things that go into RVing. This book is super helpful. I'm a first-time RV owner, have had my travel trailer 5 months, just ordered this book - and am already learning things I didn't know I needed to know! BTW - Beware Kindle RV titles on Amazon. I purchased a few from different authors only to find out they were almost the exact same book! They were thin and unhelpful.
A clearly written overview on the selection and care of all types of RV's. This is not intended to be a detailed how-to manual, but rather an introduction to RVing for folks trying to decide if that's the right choice for them. A survey course, not a graduate seminar. And it succeeds quite well at its chosen mission, and as the new owner of an old Toyota motorhome, it was a useful read. The pointers on safety equipment are good, and there is a nice list of links and apps in the back. My only gripe is with the formatting of the Kindle edition. Sidebar info was rarely complete, and sometimes the placement of the sidebars caused gaps in the main text. Kindle is good for straight text, but the medium still has problems dealing with complex page layouts.
I got a wild idea I needed a motorhome. Before I made a spur of the moment purchase, I bought this and RVs for dummies and about 3 other books on RVs. For the sum total of about 40 dollars I tried to bring myself up to speed on both the joys and pitfalls of motorhome ownership. This is a very informative book that any newbie should have in their collection
This was a simple and well-written book that provided just the right amount of information for somebody like me who is entertaining the notion of jumping into the RV lifestyle. Until reading this book, I knew next to nothing about RV's. I was particularly nervous about the various "systems" of an RV, like plumbing and electrical. This book did an excellent job describing how those systems worked in a way that a knucklehead like me could understand.I feel much better equipped go out looking for the perfect RV after reading this book. I definitely recommend it to anyone new to RV's.
In the space of about a month, my family and I went from deciding to do some more camping to actually owning our first RV. The burden of learning how to actually drive, operate, and live in the vehicle fell, of course, on daddy. As such, I needed a crash course in the how and why, and this book provided exactly what I needed to successfully buy, equip, load, drive, and enjoy the vehicle for our first two trips. Along with my owners manuals and the supplements that came with them, I avoided disaster (or looking stupid). There is no way of containing everything you need to know as an RVer or a boater between the covers of any book you can carry. Nonetheless, this is a superb primer, a great place to start on your journey of learning.
The book arrived pretty quick, so that was good. The book itself is well-written and the content that it covers is very thorough and helpful. The only gripe I have is that too much space was given to the RV buying experience, what to look for, etc and not enough space to the actual RV lifestyle, how to troubleshoot/work on your RV and how to navigate the many quirks and obstacles that come up when you live the full-time RV life like I do. There are a lot of things that mechanically go wrong in an RV with regular use, a ton of regular maintenance and care is needed. There are also a ton of mistakes to be made. I was hoping to see a lot more coverage on these topics, rather than just "how to buy an RV and how to operate it.". They do talk quite a bit about campgrounds and RV parks and that overall experience, which is good. If you are looking to buy an RV and have never owned one, then this book can be a good resource for you. However, once you get your RV and start living the life, I'm not sure how useful this book really is, to be honest. It's a good starter book for a "newbie" to the RV experience. The only reason I gave it 4 stars, instead of 3 is that it IS an "Idiots Guide" book and, perhaps I should have expected it to be more of an introduction, rather than a beginning-to-end RV lifestyle manual. It's a good book for what it does cover.
We were novices when I bought this book. And I've come to see that everything written is accurate & helpful. There's chapters & info on all the systems in an RV--the stove top, the oven, the marine-type toilet, the generator, the propane, the large engine etc etc. I truly recommend this book to anyone new to the RV world.
