One of my grandson's favorite books. He brings it to me to read more frequently than The Big Brown Bear or The Spooky Old Tree. And that's saying A LOT!
There are lots of grandparent books out there, but for me, some of them can be sort of needy or pushy. This book is appealing because it is playful and pretty insightful. It turns a little kid's concerns about being left with a babysitter, (even a grandparent), into little jokes about grandparents. This switcheroo is clever and gives the book a bit of zip.The jokes are mild and predictable but still affectionate and cheerful. The book's tone is consistently upbeat and there aren't any jokes or funny bits that make you pause and wonder why anyone ever thought "that" was funny.Both because this is about as appealing as store-bought whimsy can get and because grandfathers are a hard bunch to buy anything for, this book worked for me. And I'll guarantee that if you sit down to read this book with one or more of your grandchildren, you'll end up doing some of the things that are suggested as grandpa pleasers.
I bought this book for my granddaughter. She was having problems on how to babysit grandpa. But, after I read it to her she now has her grandpa in order. No just kidding. The book is cute and sweet and I love reading it to her. My husband chuckles as we read it.
I gave this book to my dad for Christmas 2016, 2 months before his first grandchild was due. He opened it and read it out loud to me, my brother and sister-in-law....and we all couldn't stop smiling. It's the sweetest cutest book for a new grandpa! I can't wait for my niece to snuggle up with him for afternoon story time!
I purchased this book for my 3 year old daughter to help prepare her for her first night away from me and her Daddy. I figured since she was staying with her grandma and grandpa this book along with How to Babysit a Grandma would be perfect. I was right! She absolutely loves both this book and How to Babysit a Grandma. She doesn't care that the character in the book is a boy, (we also don't dwell on gender specific toys though). She has already started talking about what her and Papa are going to do when she babysits him later this month. It's a really cute story and I'm really happy I purchased this book.
The pages aren't even connected to the binding. It doesn't even look like it ever was either. :( We love books and this isnt ok. Beautiful pictures though.
Love this book and the companion book, How to Babysit a Grandma. Bought both for the grandparents before an extended vacation when they watched the kids, and they loved them. Great to read together - illustrations are fun and the stories are great about letting grandpa have his nap time, and keeping him entertained. Super cute stories.
Instead of Grandpa babysitting the child, the reverse is true in this book. The child goes to spend the day with Grandpawho needs a sitter. It follows their activities and adventures for the entire day ending with the PARENTS coming to takethe SITTER home. This would be a great book to read just before a visit to Grandpa or for a child to read aloud to Grandpaduring a visit!
I bought this book originally with the thought of using it to announce my pregnancy to my and my husband's families. I was going to wrap copies of this and its companion ("How to Babysit a Grandma") for each of our parents and have them open them. This will be the first grandchild on both sides. However, I was not able to get Amazon Prime shipping on this product at the time, and we went a different route with the announcement, but I still bought the books as gifts for my parents and in-laws. The stories were cute with great illustrations, and I think all of the new grandparents enjoyed their books. I've seen other reviewers mention that they wished you could order the Grandma book with a grandson, and/or the Grandpa book with a granddaughter, and though I can see that as a want of others, we are not finding out our baby's gender prior to delivery, so that really didn't change our enjoyment of the books. Hopefully we will eventually have some grandsons and granddaughters for them to spoil anyway :)
