Steven G. Conover writes books on clock repair and clockmaking. His eleven titles include Clock Repair Basics, a beginning book; Chime Clock Repair, a text covering the most common chime clocks seen by repairers; Building an American Clock Movement, which illustrates how to make a complete timepiece movement; and Repairing French Pendulum Clocks, covering several types of French clocks. Have found it helpful, but still needed a professional clock repair person to change the weight cable since no instructions were given on how to do it, just the lengthy of cable and cable weight was given. So it was helpful and yet not helpful.

If anything can let us escape the $3-4000 "repair" bid for our 1941 clock, this book should do it. Clock and book being entrusted to my very handy son-in-law for his next ambitious project.

If you are working on a Herschede Clock it is an invaluable tool. It covers disassembly and reassembly of the works, adjusting and general care.

Not enough info on the HERSCHEDE Clock with electric motor 1929 clock.

I have several of Steve's clock repair books. I find all of them logically organized with needed topics and clearly written with great pictures and illustrations. This Herschede clock book was bought prior to my purchase of one. It quickly gave me the skills to safely unpack and set-up this type clock. The troubleshooting and identification sections were also very helpful. The typical bushing repairs ,etc were not covered since these topics are covered in depth in his Basic Clock Repair and more advanced Clock Repair Skills books. Although some may prefer the hard bound type book, these loose leaf with the spiral plastic binding lend very useful to open book/work bench reference. The quality of page paper is good and wears well.

I found this book very informative and helpful. A valuable asset for anyone who repairs Herschede clocks as a hobby or business. It has more information than the original publishing and has better details. Contains instructions for disassembly, repairs, reassembly, set up, chimes, and synchronization. Overall a very good book. It eliminated a lot of guesswork, the need to draw diagrams, or take pictures.

The "bible" for any Herschede clock owner. You should be sure that whoever works on your clock has this book. If not, find someone else. Aside from the technical information, it is an excellent history book.
